AAA Minneapolis to Dedicate the Month of March to Drugged Driving Awareness - AAA Minneapolis

ST. LOUIS PARK (March 7, 2016) – Throughout the month of March, AAA will be working to raise awareness on the nature of drugged driving and how to prevent it. Only 28% of drivers consider driving under the influence of prescription drugs a very serious threat. In comparison, 56% consider driving under the influence of illegal drugs a very serious threat.

Twitter users are welcome to share their questions on drugged driving using the #DruggedDriving hashtag. Later this month, AAA Minneapolis will film and release interviews with members of local law enforcement addressing the public’s concerns.

AAA Driver Training Instructor Mike Torkelson cautions that “mixing of any types of drugs (legal, illegal, prescription, over-the-counter) can cause a synergistic effect, which means that the combined effect of multiple drugs are greater than the sum of their separate effects.”

Drivers should be proactive and further research how their prescriptions could interact with their driving at AAA’s confidential Roadwise RX website (

AAA Minneapolis will have expert speakers available for interviews on drugged driving. Bios of two speakers are blow. For interview requests, please email Sabrina Caprioli at
