Zero Proof Holiday Mocktail: Apple Pie Moscow Mule

Minneapolis Auto Club Foundation for Safety

Mules are so fun because, unlike most drinks, they are served in copper mugs and any simple garnish turns it into a beautiful beverage. The apple pie mule takes it a step farther by adding wonderful fall flavors!

This recipe makes 2 8oz. servings.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz apple cider
  • 1 splash of caramel syrup
  • 1 bottle ginger beer
  • Cinnamon sticks
  • Apple slices
  • Ice

Utensils

  • 2 copper mugs
  • Cocktail shaker

Directions

  1. Fill two copper mugs with crushed ice
  2. In a cocktail shaker, combine apple cider and a splash of caramel syrup. Shake to combine
  3. Pour half of the apple cider into each mug
  4. Top each mug with ginger beer until full
  5. Garnish with cinnamon sticks and apple slices
  6. Serve immediately

Tips and Substitutions

  • Don’t add the ginger beer to the cocktail shaker. The carbonation will cause it to foam/fizz
  • If you don’t have a cocktail shaker, put the caramel in the copper mug, add 4 ounces of apple cider and then stir until it is well mixed. After it is mixed, add ice and then the ginger beer. Make sure to stir before adding the ginger beer so you don’t lose all the carbonation.
  • For added sweetness, you can drizzle cold caramel over the top of the ice and/or the apple slices.
  • For a more spice-filled flavor, sprinkle ground cinnamon on the top of the drink before serving.
