Safety First

Wendy Weigel

Humor me for a moment. If I were to play a word association game with you and asked about AAA, what word comes to mind? Based on my experience, many of you would say towing, as we have long been the standard in reliable emergency roadside assistance. Others may say travel, as AAA is one of the largest leisure travel agencies in the U.S. and an industry leader with travel guides, maps and tour books. Of course, others may associate AAA with insurance, cars, roads, driver education or even hotel discounts! With an extensive and growing portfolio of services, many words may be associated with AAA.

While recently thinking about AAA and the services we offer, I landed on a word that I strongly associate with AAA: safety. While safety isn’t a specific service, it is the thread that runs through many of our services. Safety is the foundation of emergency roadside assistance, which helps protect our members on the road. Safety is critical for our Travel Agency when they plan and book your dream vacation. Our Insurance Agency is deeply rooted in safety, as they strive to protect you and the things that matter most. Our License Services department ensures that you and your vehicle are ready for the road. When I think of AAA, I think of safety first.

A great example of how we advocate and educate safety is through our Driving Programs. We offer engaging teen driver education classes and behind-the-wheel lessons that promote safe driving instruction for novice drivers. This program is vital because teen drivers have an increased risk of being involved in a deadly crash compared with experienced adult drivers. Our senior driving classes are designed to promote safe driving strategies for adults 55 and over, so they continue to drive safer and longer. Our Driving Programs are excellent examples of how AAA keeps our drivers, roads and vehicles safe!
