Summer in the Cities

Raya Garrison

There’s something about the month of May in Minnesota. It’s a favorite month for many, including myself, and not just because it’s my birthday month. There’s an intangible, magical, happy buzz in the air. We’ve finally escaped the threat of snow, the sun feels warmer, patios are opening and there is green as far as the eye can see. These are the days we wait for all winter long—they make the negative temperatures, slippery roads, ice dams and snow days all worth it. It just doesn’t get much better than summer in Minnesota, and spring is the opening act.

Speaking of green, we have a very impactful article about sustainable travel from Renata Faeth that touches on how to protect our planet’s people, wildlife and natural resources with the current rise in tourism. She offers many incredible ideas, tips, companies and products in our Travel Store to help keep your footprint minimal while exploring this beautiful planet of ours.

Newport, Rhode Island, offers a truly magical escape to take in Mother Nature. Samantha Johnson takes a deep dive into this idyllic, coastal town highlighting The Blue Garden, Bowen’s Wharf and so much more. And with patio season heating up, you may be looking for the best spot to have a drink outside. I’ve compiled some favorite spots all around the Twin Cities to enjoy almost any type of beverage you could dream of under the warm, summer sun.

I hope you have an incredible, sunshine-filled summer and can enjoy the best of what our Twin Cities has to offer.
