International Driving Permits
When traveling, carry an International Driving Permit (IDP) even if you’re not planning to drive. Valid in over 150 countries, the permit contains your name, photo and driver information translated into ten languages. Should you need to communicate with foreign authorities, this recognizable form of identification can help you get on your way more quickly.
NOTE: International Driving Permits may not be issued more than six (6) months in advance of desired effective date.
Apply for Your IDP at a AAA Office
No appointment necessary!
IDP's are done at the AAA branch offices and the St. Louis Park Welcome Center NOT at SLP DMV license services. Travel Store locations.
IDPs are completed and ready for you in approximately 10 minutes.
You may fill out our International Driving Permit application in advance. With your application, you will also need:
- Your valid U.S. driver’s license
- Two ORIGINAL passport-type photos (each signed on the back) *NO photocopies and taken within the past 6 months
- $20.00 permit fee

- Non-members: $17.10 with tax
- AAA Basic Members: $14.08 with tax
- AAA Plus and Premier Members: 1 free set per member, per year
Mail in Your IDP Application
To receive your International Driving Permit through the mail, enclose with your completed application form:
- A photocopy of both sides of your driver’s license
- Two ORIGINAL passport-type photos (each signed on the back) *NO photocopies and taken within the past 6 months
- $20.00 permit fee
- Optional: additional U.S. funds for expedited return mail service (See USPS.com, Fedex.com or UPS.com for rates)
Mail these documents to the AAA office nearest you. One envelope and one check payment can be used for all parties requesting an IDP.
