Built on 7 hills like Rome, after which it was modeled in the 11th-century, Bamberg is a jewelbox collection of historic architecture, particularly baroque, and was virtually untouched by wartime devastation. Nine breweries produce over 50 varieties of beer, including the distinctive local specialty, Rauchbier (smoke beer).
