A Scotland Golf Vacation

For many of us, a year of little socializing has meant finding joy in activities we love, but never have enough time for.  This is how 2020 has played out for AAA Travel Advisor Catherine Moore, who decided to embrace her competitive spirit out on the golf course.

Moore has been playing the game since she was a little girl growing up in Iowa in a sports-loving family.  “I was influenced by my grandad, who was a great player in his day.  He earned four letters in golf at the University of Michigan, and even played in the Pebble Beach Pro-Am a few times.”

She was still practicing her swing regularly when she married her husband, Jonathan, who had never played much, but was willing to learn.  This summer -things being the way they were - was the year to step up his game. “Restaurants and theater were closed, but the golf courses were open!” she says with enthusiasm.  They spent their free time sharing a love for the sport, and not much else.

When the pandemic is over, Moore wants to celebrate with a customized golf trip to Scotland, where the game originated, and if they’re lucky play a round at the famous Old Course at St. Andrews.

Referred to as “The Home of Golf,” where the sport was first played in the early 15th century, St. Andrews is a dream destination for avid golfers, not just because of the history, but because the course has so many unique qualities.  For example, one of the world’s toughest par-4’s is the 17th hole, known as the Road Hole, featuring a hazardous sand trap that has flummoxed many of the world’s best players.  The course also has seven greens that are shared by two holes each, with hole numbers adding up to 18.

So, Moore’s message is this: when you’re able to travel again, consider doing it a style that surpasses your wildest imaginations.
