December 3, 2024: Reykjavik- Golden Circle- Secret Lagoon- Hella area (B, D)

In the morning your tour guide will pick you up at your hotel and you start your trip by driving to Þingvellir National Park. You can see the effects of the tectonic plate movements here, which have opened various cracks and fissures in the earth’s crust. It was in Þingvellir that the Icelandic Parliament, Alþingi, was founded in the 10th century. Members of the Alþingi chose to settle disputes with their words recorded and read by a Lawmaker, an incredibly forward-thinking institution for its time. Afterwards you continue along the route of the “Golden Circle” with a visit to the famous geothermal site of Geysir, where the Strokkur hot spring ejects its water column high into the air every few minutes. Onward to Gullfoss, a spectacular waterfall which Icelanders refer to as the “golden” waterfall. Next you will have a visit to Secret Lagoon or “Gamla Lauginn” for a nice soak before heading to your hotel in the Hella Area.

In the evening - like on all evenings of the trip - keep your eyes open in search of the Northern Lights that appear in the winter sky. When conditions are right, they can be magnificent.  (Your hotels on this tour are, among other reasons, chosen because of their location away from the light pollution of villages and cities.)

Included: Secret Lagoon. Gamla Lauginn, also known as Secret Lagoon, is the oldest natural pool in Iceland and a place where people from the region come to socialize and learn to swim. Located in the village of Flúðir, south of Gullfoss and Geysir, the lagoon is ideally situated so that it can be visited at the end of the day. Entrance fee and towel rental are included.

December 4, 2024: Skógar- Vík- Klaustur area (B, D)

Today you head towards Iceland’s South Region.  Along the way you’ll stop at several places like the Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, a small but picturesque waterfall behind which one can walk. You also make a stop at Skógar where you will have a look at the Skógafoss Waterfall, one of the highest in Iceland. You continue your drive in the direction of Vík village, located in an idyllic setting famous for the Reynisdrangar pillars that rise from the sea just off the shore. Take a refreshing walk on the magnificent black sand of Reynisfjara beach with its basalt columns of all sizes and shapes. From here you have a great view of the rock pillars. Legend says that the pillars originated when two trolls dragged a three-masted ship to land unsuccessfully and when daylight broke, they became needles of rock.

December 5, 2024: Ice Cave- Jökulsárlón- Skaftafell- Klaustur area (B, D)

You head further east to one of the most famous attractions of South Iceland, the spectacular Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon, where icebergs break down from the Vatnajökull glacier and float on the lake. Walk around and enjoy the breath-taking scenery and visit the beach where numerous icebergs have floated ashore, transforming the beach as if it were covered in diamonds. Maybe some curious seals will also show their heads while they watch us contemplate the area.

Included: Ice cave in Vatnajökull. Visit an ice cave! The tour is operated by local guides of Vatnajökull and their choice for the best available ice cave is not only based on the size of the cave, but the overall beauty of the area and the colors. They strive to find the bluest ice cave there is! The super jeep journey to reach the cave is an adventure of its own, travelling through mesmerizing landscapes, carved out by glaciers over decades.

December 6, 2024: Hvolsvöllur – Lava Tunnel- Sky Lagoon- Reykjavík (B, D)

Today you will make your way back to Reykjavik along the South Shore. Here you’ll discover one of the longest natural lava tubes in Raufarhólshellir. With the aid of easy-access walkways, explore this ancient natural wonder illuminated by beautiful lighting effects. After, visit Sky Lagoon for a 7 steps ritual.
