The Unofficial Start to the Year

Jesse Simon

If you ask me, September feels more like the start of a new year than January. The summer heat gives way to cooler fall air, and the leaves begin their slow yet beautiful transition to all shades of orange, yellow and red. Students and teachers alike return to school a year older and a year wiser, with nervous excitement about what the year may bring. Even our favorite entertainment returns from the summer hiatus with a schedule of new television programming and video content. And let’s not forget football, the most popular sport in America, which kicks off in September. This time of year feels so new and exciting that one might feel compelled to celebrate the unofficial new year on Labor Day.

With the new month and season comes new content from Live|Play|AAA. For starters, check out Raya Garrison’s article about Minnesotan Explorers, which profiles local men and women who have pushed the boundaries of adventure and discovery. Renata Faeth does a masterful job capturing the allure of Egypt and what makes it a fantastic travel destination. Domestic travelers and wine enthusiasts will enjoy Katie Ballalatak’s article about the different ways to explore and experience California’s wine country. In our tech section, we review a tech company called CLEAR that provides fast access to airport security screening with finger-print and eye scanning biometric technology.

On a housekeeping note, I wanted to congratulate Raya Garrison on her promotion to associate editor of Live|Play|AAA. Raya is not only a great writer and editor, but also keeps me on task and makes sure we get the magazine out the door on time. In other words, if it weren’t for Raya, you would be enjoying this issue of Live|Play|AAA...sometime in November.

Safe travels!
